Our Greatest Need: The Holy Spirit

To all my readers, I apologize for a long absence. I dropped my story in the middle of my travels in Germany and I will wrap that up, but right now I’d rather write on current events.

Hard to believe a whole year has passed by, but it’s time once again for the Ten Days of Prayer, an initiative of the Seventh-day Adventist Church to encourage united prayer at all levels of the church that we make corporately seek the will of the Lord and the promised Latter Rain that will precede Christ’s second coming.

Last year the theme was on the Fruits of the Spirit and we looked in depth at Galatians 5:22-23, along with other supporting texts. This year’s theme is a basic but extremely important one: “Abiding in Christ.”

What does it mean to abide in Christ? How does one know when Christ is abiding in us? These questions and more will be explored over the next several days.

Tonight was the first in the series and was titled, “Our Greatest Need: The Holy Spirit.”

The third member of the Godhead is often forgotten and misunderstood, but the true Christian experience can only be gained by interacting with the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is a gift from God to us that we might know Him better and be empowered to do that which Christ commissioned us – to make disciples of all nations (Matt. 28:19). And the Spirit is a gift that God desires to give each of us, but we must ask for it. The Lord is not one who will impose Himself upon anyone because of the free will which He has endowed upon us at creation.

Take some time to study the Scriptures about the Holy Spirit. Ask the Lord for the Spirit’s presence and guidance in your life. When the Spirit is welcomed in your heart, you’ll soon begin to learn what it means to abide in Christ.

If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” Luke 11:13

Prayer Suggestions:

Praise God for who He is, for His love, His wisdom, His holiness, and everything else.

Praise God that He will teach you how to abide in Him.

Praise God that He is more than willing to give you the greatest gift, the Holy Spirit.

Ask God for forgiveness for not appreciating the gift of His Holy Spirit as you should, and ask Him to give you a hunger and thirst for the Holy Spirit.

Ask God to reveal more of His character so that you can know Him.

Is anything hindering the Holy Spirit from coming into your heart? Tell God about those things.

Pray for the unity of the church in truth and Spirit.

Pray for every member to feel a burden for soul winning and realize that heaven asks everyone to follow in Christ’s steps by sharing their personal faith through God’s guidance.

Thank God for the gift of His Holy Spirit!

Thank God for the ways His Spirit has been working in your heart.

Thank God for how He is going to save souls for His kingdom during these ten days.

May you be blessed!
